Oh my, I can remember our days at Gallman High School at games back in the good old days and you grew into such an adorable, caring and understanding young gentleman. I remember us reconnecting by phone while you were driving from work near Edgefield County to home and we talked and laughed. Rest with Jesus, my dear friend and know you changed the minds and lives of many, many people young and old bc you gave of yourself , always. Our deepest sympathy to your family. We came to know Willie through the NFL Alumni Tournament at Northstone Country Club in Charlotte NC. We became friends and I know all of the people who came in contact with Willie loved him as we did. He and I stayed in touch via the telephone and a few visits from time to time over the last 6-7 years when he would come to Charlotte. I would reach out to him and last spoke in January when he told me of his illness and progression. Willie and I used to laugh about our friendship and how you might wonder we stayed connected. I knew Willie as a wonderful brother in law, a loving husband to my sister Susan, and a kind and caring stepfather to Cassidy, Cameron and Caleb. Willie was a humble gentleman and God’s faithful servant. He never bragged about his many accomplishments. I’m just now finding out about them. His obituary reflects a life well lived; service to God, family and South Carolina. There are some people that are good at everything. He was one of them. Rest In Peace.

I first met Willie as one of his professors at Carolina. When he went off to the NFL after a very fruitful college experience both academically and athletically, we remained in contact. We worshipped together at St Luke’s, Columbia, and he was mentor to my young son. He also saw to it that I take his brother Nelson under my wings at USC. Willie visited with us in Houston where we had relocated and presently reside. Naturally I was shocked to learn of his passing. On sharing the news with my son, he remarked simply: “he was a good man.” To his wife Pam and brother Nelson, be of good cheer and remain strong. Scottie is looking down at us all and waiting to greet you in his heavenly home.

I attended Newberry High School with Scottie and he was always a jokester and fun person to be around. Many years passed and our paths crossed when he was coaching at my Alma mater SC State. Though much time had passed from those high school days of the 70s Scottie was still the same genuine and kind hearted person with that famous smile. Willie was my neighbor for many years in Lexington. I will truly miss his sweet smile and his thoughtfulness. He helped me many times and especially after my husband got sick. He was a great friend that I will never forget. My prayers go out for Susan and their children as well as his brother and sister.

Willie was a Star in everything he did which is proven by produced positive results . A great player, teammate, student, and was loved through his huge smile and personality. God Bless the family through these times. Just remember the GREAT man he was and what he did for others
