Funeral services for Mrs. Edith Glasgow, age 100, will be conducted on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM at New Enoree Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Edith Salters Glasgow was born in Newberry County, South Carolina, on September 15, 1917. She was the oldest child of Jim and Mamie Salters. She departed this earthly life on Friday, June 8, 2018 in the comfort of her home, in Newberry, South Carolina. Mrs. Edith was educated in the public schools in Newberry County. She retired from Newberry College after 30 years of employment having worked in the Facilities Management Department.
Mrs. Edith, fondly known as “Mother Glasgow” was a faithful member of the New Enoree Baptist Church, where she diligently served in ministries of, the Deaconess Board, Usher Board, Pastor’s Aide, Senior Choir and the food committee. Mother Glasgow was a Missionary Warrior. She dutifully served as mother and advisor to all who desired her counseling. Mother Glasgow enjoyed attending Bible Study and encouraged others to do so as well.
Mother Glasgow enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Her specialty items included homemade breakfast, red velvet cakes and lemon meringue pies. Her everyday past time was sitting on the porch talking with her neighbors and on the phone talking with her friends.
Mrs. Edith was married to Ernest Glasgow who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by 9 siblings; two sons, James “Sonny” and Hayne Glasgow; 2 daughters-in-law Blondell and Jessie Glasgow and one son-in-law, Reverend Brady Boyd.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories are, her loving sister Troxcell Brown of, Charlotte, NC; devoted children, daughters, Mamie Boyd, Ernestine Ratliff, and Martha Glasgow, of Newberry; sons, Charles (Jacqueline), John (Gloria) and Richard (Ethelena) of Newberry; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren, as well as many relatives, church members and friends who will miss her dearly.
