Funeral services for Mr. Arthur Lee Wheeler will be conducted on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Lower Mount Olive AME Church in Prosperity, SC. Burial will be on Thursday, October 24 at 11:00 AM at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.  

Arthur Lee Wheeler was born August 27th, 1949 in Prosperity, South Carolina to the late James E. Wheeler and Alice Stephens Wheeler. On Thursday, October 17, 2019 he rested from labor to reward at WJB Dorn Hospice and Pallantive Care Warriors Walk, Columbia, South Carolina.

 Arthur was affectionately  known as “Shim” or “Soul Dog” to many. He was educated in the public schools of Newberry County and graduated from Gallman High School Class of 1966, and received a Business Administration Degree from Midlands Technical College. He Served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was employed by BellSouth as the first black Electronics Technician in Newberry, South Carolina, and later retired after 30 years of service with the company.

Arthur joined Lower Mt. Olive AME Church at an early age, where he was baptized. In later years he moved to Shannon, North Carolina where he lived most recently and became a member of Greater Mt. Calvary Holiness Church. There he served as a trustee, a member of the Men’s Choir, and the Mass Choir. “Shim” loved to go fishing and he was a very giving and fun-loving person to be around.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Nancy L. Wheeler Caldwell; two brothers, James Willie Wheeler and John Thomas Wheeler.

Mr. Arthur Lee Wheeler leaves to cherish his precious memories a devoted and loving wife, Betty Hiller Wheeler; one son reared in the home, Ildefonso G. Hiller; one sister, Berdie W. (Matthew) Kelly (Newark, NJ); two brothers, George E. Wheeler (Shannon, NC), and Macky L. (Faye) Wheeler (Prosperity, SC); two aunts, Lucinda (Harold) Boyd, and Barbara Bates (Prosperity, SC); one uncle, Claude (Lottie Bell) Bates (Prosperity, SC); four sisters in law, Fennie M. Hair (Newberry, SC), Margaret (Dave) Alston, Mary Hiller and Loraine Bowers (Prosperity, SC); two favorite niece, Hannah Wheeler (Shannon, NC) and Gwendy Wheeler o Prosperity, SC.  ; and a host of other nieces and nephews,; other loving relatives and caring friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
