Mary Sligh Obituary

Mrs. Mary Louise Adams Sligh, affectionately known by her family and friends, as "Sut," was born in Newberry County on December 13, 1939, to the late Johnnie Lee and Lillie Mae Adams.  Mary departed this life on April 6, 2023 at her home.

Mrs. Sligh has been a faithful member of Old Beaver Dam Church in Newberry County for many years.  She was employed by Newberry Mills in Newberry and Monsanto in Greenwood.  She attended the public schools in Newberry County and is a graduate of Gallman High School.

Mrs. Sligh was predeceased  by two daughters, Laura Mae Adams Wilson and Denethia Elaine Adams Hunley, great-grandson, Armon Wright, brothers, Thornal Lee Adams and John Thomas Adams.

Mrs. Sligh is survived by her husband, John Willie Sligh of the home; four daughters, Patricia (Randall) Wise, Barbara Jean Benson, Annette (James) Darby and Kim Williams all of Newberry, SC, three step-sons, John Willie Sligh, Jr. and Roydrick (Patricia) Williams of Newberry, SC and Travis Nelson of Greenwood, SC and one step-daughter, Yolanda (Tim) Williams of Newberry, SC, nine grandchildren, Katria Adams, Travis Adams, Richard Baxter, III, Shaina Baxter, Lillie Darby, James Darby, Jr., Patrick (Shante) Burton, Joshua (Titlaya) Mathis and Tierra Byrd all of Newberry, SC; special cousin, Bernice Camp of Newberry, SC; two special sons, Jerry Adams of Washington, DC and Thornal Lee Adams of Alabama, two sisters-in-law, Mattie Adams of New York and Joe Patricia Adams of Newberry, SC, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at the home of James and Annette Darby, 561 Green Meadows Drive, Newberry, SC.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Old Beaver Dam Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Werts Cemetery.  Public viewing will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
