Lawrence Spann

Mr. Lawrence "Larry" Spann was born in Moncks Corner, South Carolina on August 18, 1934 to the late Reverend Willie James Spann and the late Elease Brand Spann.  He departed this life on Friday, February 9, 2024.

Mr. Spann was educated in the public schools of Sumter County.  After school he migrated up north to New York to embrace his future.  While there, he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces and fought in World War II.  After leaving the military, he settled back in New York.  Mr. Spann was an entrepreneur, the owner of Larry Spann's Painting, Company.  Afterwards, he was later employed by Columbia University until retirement.

Mr. Spann was predeceased by his wife, Lillie Mae Pringle Burgess Spann, two sons, five brothers, Willie, Joe, Hollis, Dave and Charles Spann; three sisters,, Nellie M. Yates, Willie M. Dames and Geneva Gavin.

Mr. Spann leaves to cherish his memories one son, Arkeel Spann of New York; one sister, Daisy Spann of Winterhaven, FL, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews; a very special niece and caregiver Evelyn Y. Bellamy of the home; special friend, Edith of New York, and special friend and Military Fiduciary Ellen Bowers of Columbia, SC.

Public viewing will be on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Williams Funeral Home, 821 N. Main Street, Sumter, SC.  Funeral service with Military Honors will be conducted on Monday, February 19, 2024 at 10:00 am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29229.
