Ms. Dixie W. "Meme" Benson was born June 25, 1945 in Prosperity, South Carolina to the late Esper George Allen Benson, Sr. and the late Beatrice Cannon Benson. She entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.
Ms. Benson was a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church and Women's Home Aide Society #19. She was a retired nurse and bus driver for the School District of Newberry County. Ms. Benson was a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School, Piedmont Technical College and Remington College.
Ms. Benson was predeceased by a daughter, Karen D. Wilson; son, Johnnie James Wilson, Jr.; sister, Ruby L. Benson, brother, Esper George Allen Benson, Jr.
Cherishing her memory are her husband, Robert Lee Gallman, daughters, Beatrice W. Gallman (Tony Ray) of Newberry, SC, Isha Q. Wilson and Darlene Epps of Prosperity, SC, sons, Robert G. Wilson (Charlene) of Newberry, SC, adopted sons, Contoni Wilson (Tina) of Laurinburg, NC and Albert Wilson of Newberry, SC, sister, Rosene Williams of Newberry, SC, aunts, Mary A. Rikard and Ade Mae Cannon, uncle, Roosevelt Cannon, fifteen grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Jessica Wilson, sister-in-law, Loretta Shepherd, brothers-in-law, Eugene Gallman and John Willie Wilson, devoted friends, Laura Kinard and Yegennia Kelly, other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Newberry Memorial Gardens. All in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing. There will not be any viewing .
