Carrie Mae (Monts) Gray

Mrs. Carrie Mae (Monts) Gray was born on April 24, 1936 in Prosperity, South Carolina to the late Harrison Monts and the late Carrie Mayers (Monts) Martin.  She departed this Earthly Life on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Carrie accepted Jesus Christ at an early age.  Mt. Moriah AME Church is the only church she ever attended.  She enjoyed traveling to many religious events with her cousin Annelle and her late sister Genell.  She was a member of Woman's Home Aid Society #23.

Carrie was educated in the public schools of Newberry County.  She worked several jobs through her lifetime and retired from McKechnie Vehicle Components.

Carrie was preceded in death by her daughters, Mary Ann and Mattie (Abraham); brothers, George, Johnny and David; and her sister, Genell.

Mrs. Gray leaves to mourn her passing, son, George (Sharon) of Hopkins, SC, daughter Yvonne of Columbia, SC, five grandchildren, Aubrey (Tara), Ntozake, Paris, Sequita and Shavon; eight grandchildren, brother, Timothy (Cynthia) Monts; sisters, Pearline Boyd, Onzilee (Joe) Casey, Betty (George) Buskey all of Sumter, SC, a special step granddaughter/niece, Kelly, Ricky Monts (special nephew), a number of additional nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gray will be conducted on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Mt. Moriah AME Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Public viewing will be on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
