Dear Virgil. My sincere condolences to the family and I am sorry to hear of your loss. But, It was never the Creator’s purpose for mankind to suffer or to die (Romans 5:12). I hope you will be comforted by the "God of all comfort" who promises to comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4).
