Carolyn Elizabeth (Maffett) Vance

Funeral services for Mrs. Carolyn Elizabeth "Granny Cat" Vance, age 89, will be conducted on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Miller Chapel AME Church.  Burial will follow in St. Mary's AME Church cemetery.

Mrs. Vance passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017 at her home.  Born in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Gertrude Maffett.  She was an active member of Miller Chapel AME Church where she was a member of the Gospel Choir.  She was also a member of Women's Home Aid Society #7.  Mrs. Vance worked at Newberry Steam Laundry for nine years and later at Louis Rich until her retirement.

Mrs. Vance was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Jean Baxter; sister, Thomasina Maffett Caldwell; brother, Bobby Maffett.

Surviving are her husband, James Vance; daughters, Frances Suber (Vada); Debra Vance; Beverly Vance (Lawrence); sons, James Maffett (Drunell); Calvin Vance (Ivy) all of Newberry, SC; fifteen grandchildren including Sandra Maffett who was reared in the home; 24 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Bertha Neal; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
