Mrs. Willie Mae Bookman Cromer, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Prosperity, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Bookman and the late Inez Robinson Bookman. Mrs. Cromer was a housewife and a long time dedicated member of Mt. Hebron AME Church where she was a member of the Steward Board and Usher Board Choir . She was also a member of Women's Home Aid Society.
Mrs. Cromer was predeceased by her husband, Butler Cromer, Jr., daughter. Julie Mae Harris and son, Willie James Bookman; step-mother, Mary Lou Bookman; brothers, Malverse, Gene, George and James Bookman; sisters, Mary Frances Swittenburg, Rosa Lee Jones, Joann Ruff, Thelma Bookman, Naomi Wise, Mary Edith Bookman, Elizabeth Austin and Laura Bookman.
Cherishing her memory are three sons, Butler E. Cromer (Arleen) of Prosperity, SC; Freddie Lee Bookman (Virginia) and James L. Bookman (Tonya) of Newberry, SC; two daughters, Sarah Wright and Mary Ann Cromer (Solomon) of Newberry, SC; four sisters, Edith Swittenburg of Newberry, SC; Mary Deloris Bookman, Carol Jean Bookman and Georgia Lee Bookman (George) all of Prosperity, SC; three brothers, Roy Bookman of Newberry, SC; Albert and Terry Bookman; God daughters, Georgia Delphine Bookman and Carrie Jones (Nathaniel Smith) all of Prosperity, SC; 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, one aunt, Florence Stoudermire; one uncle, Willie Mack Stoudermire; brother-in-law, Roger Ruff; a host of nieces, nephews including devoted nephew Gene Swittenburg, cousins and friends that loved her dearly and will miss her.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October, 14, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Hebron AME Church. All in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
