Virginia G. "Cookie" Henry-Oglesby at the age of 88 departed this life on January 1, 2021 at her home.

Virginia was born on May 14, 1932 to the late Walter J. Henry and the late Rosa Ann Hunter Henry.

She was a member of Miller Chapel AME Church where she served for many years, and she also attended James Hopewell Baptist Church.

Virginia was educated in the Greenville County School System where she graduated in 1952 from Sterling High School. Virginia went on to continue her education at Barber Scotia University.  Upon completing her education, Virginia moved to New York and married the late Bobby Joe Oglesby, and from that union came two children.

Virginia was employed by the City of New York for 30 years until she retired in 1988.  Virginia returned to South Carolina after retirement and resided in Newberry, SC until her death.

Virginia was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who loved and touched many lives whom she came in contact with.  Even though Virginia is no longer with us she will always be remembered for her beautiful heart and loving spirit.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Oglesby, mother, father, grandson, Orlando C. Watkis, two sisters, Mary Ellen Holmes and Carrie L. Jones; five brothers, Walter Lee, James L., John Albert, Samuel and Guy Neal Henry; brothers-in-law, Jessie Allgood, Rev. James Holmes and Joe Jones and loving son-in-law, Eugene Coleman.

As Virginia enters the Heavenly Kingdom she leaves many broken hearts and will be truly missed by all who loved her of just had the opportunity to sit down and have a cup of coffee and talk to her.  Just know that her light will forever shine of her memory and in our hearts.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memory one  daughter, Sharon Watkis-Coleman; one son, Mark L. Oglesby(Valerie) of Queens, NY; one grandson, Marcus Oglesby of Ashburn, Virginia; two great grandsons, Omarion T. Watkis of Columbia, South Carolina and Chandler B. Watkis of Paducah, Kentucky; one sister, Rosa Allgood of California; one  brother, Harry Henry (Bobbie Jean) of Fort Washington, MD; two sisters-in-law, Frances Henry of Accokeek, Maryland and Theodora Henry of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Newberry Memorial Gardens.  All in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
