Thomas James Hill

Mr. Thomas Hill was born April 22, 1935 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Eula Mae Hill.  He transitioned from his earthly life on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at White Oak Manor-Newberry.

Mr. Hill attended Drayton Street Elementary School and graduated from Drayton Street High School.  He completed a tour of duty in the United States Army, where he served in the communications department.  Upon completion of his military service he attended Morris College in Sumter South Carolina, graduating in 1957.  He taught in the public schools of Georgia fo a brief period.  He then moved to Passaic, New Jersey where he spent most of his adult life.  He returned to Newberry, South Carolina to live with and care for his mother.

During his lifetime, he served variously as a radio disc jockey, a bartender, a restaurant owner, and a grocery store butcher.  He always had a funny story to tell.  He would give the shirt from his back to help and support others, especially his family.  He served as an Alcoholics Anonymous Counselor for 20 years.

Mr. Hill was predeceased by his wife, Stelline Isaac Hill, sister, Patricia Davis and brother, Willie Hill.

He is survived by one son, Fidel Hill of Rocky Mount, NC; grandchild, Harriett Walker; great-grand-grandchildren, Tyheim Walker and Jaden Walker all of Brooklyn, NY; sisters, Mary Alice Sims and Elsie Coleman of Newberry, SC; brother, Reverend Larry Hill of Charlotte, NC, nieces and nephews, Gladys, Napoleon, Jackie, Christopher, Louise, Raymond, Jr., Valerie, Anthony, Concetta, Charles, III, Renee, James, Talissia and Philip, a number of grand nieces and nephews, great-grand and great-great nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Thomas, a caring and compassionate man, has gone from among us, but we thank God for the time we had him in our lives.  May his soul rest in peace.  AMEN!

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Pratt Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Werts Cemetery with Military Honors..  All in attendance are required to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
