Shirley Mae (Fant) Young

Mrs. Shirley Mae Fant Young, age 71, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital.

Mrs. Young was born May 19, 1950 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Harvey Lee Fant and the late Jessie Lee Dudley Fant. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as an Usher and a member of the choir.  Mrs. Young was employed with Newberry College food service as a Head Baker for over 30 years.  She was a graduate of Gallman High School class of 1968. 

Mrs. Young was predeceased by a son, Anthony Fant; two sisters, Carrie Davis and Patricia Baylor; two brothers, Reverend James Willie Fant and Raymond Fant.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving husband of 51 years Wallace Young; daughter, Jessima Young; son, Maurice Young; one brother, John Fant of Newberry, SC; five sisters, Patricia Ann Abernathy of Camden, SC; Linda Senn (Fred), Edith Fant, Connie Brown and Harriett Gallman all of Newberry, SC; two step-sisters, Mary Booker (Vance) of Lockhart, SC; Cynthia Anderson (Claude) of Clinton, SC; three step-brothers, Charles Long, Obie Long and Jerry Long all of Newberry, SC; five sisters-in-law, Marthetta Rutherford of Marietta, GA; Pastor Willie Fant of Joanna, SC; Dorothy Scurry (Sammy) of Roosevelt, NY; Sarah F. Young and Catherine Chaplin of Newberry, SC; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, devoted friends, Barbara Sligh, Josephine Crosby and Mary Ellis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A beautiful church family at Calvary Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Newberry Memorial Gardens.  All in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
