Ms. Sharon Theodora Perry Delaney, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore and Addie Thomas Perry, was born October 14, 1957, in Newberry, South Carolina.  She entered the arms of Jesus, Friday, July 26, 2019 and was blessed with 61 years of life in which she touched many people, especially the youth.  Sharon inspired people to be and do their best by telling young men to grow up and be the King that God had placed in them, and for young ladies to be a Queen!!  She stood strong in her faith and family values.

Sharon attended public school in Newberry, South Carolina and was a 1980 graduate of Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education.  A strong advocate of higher learning and education, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Urban Education and School Counseling from Norfolk State University in 2009.  Sharon was a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.  She retired from Verizon after 20 years of dedicated service in 2010.  At the time of her passing, she was a real estate agent with Chad Ingram Reality in Virginia.

Sharon was active in the communities in which she resided.  She had a caretaking spirit and often put others before herself.  She fed the homeless as a volunteer at the Oasis Homeless Shelter in Portsmouth Virginia.  While residing in Newberry, Sharon was instrumental in organizing the Neighborhood Watch Program for the Crosson and Drayton Streets Community. As a staunch supporter of the Voter’s Right Act, Sharon served as a Poll Chief and often transported people to the poll to exercise their right to be heard by voting!!

While growing up in Newberry SC, Sharon accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Welch Zion Baptist Church.  She loved the Lord and praised Him continuously.  During her youthful days, she played the piano for Welch Zion Baptist Church and sang in the choir.  Sharon enjoyed Sunday rivals and Vacation Bible School.  While at Grove Baptist Church, she was active in the Youth Department.  During her time in Newberry, Sharon attended Bethlehem Baptist Church along with her children.  She loved making a joyful noise unto the Lord by singing and praising His Holy Name!

Throughout her life’s journey, Sharon influenced many people in the church and community.  She was a devoted family member in which we all depended upon her strength to care for her loved ones.  Sharon was candid, quick-witted and had a great sense of humor… never a dull moment with her! She was a motherly figure and protector of everyone and loved us all!!

On November 14, 1981, she married Mr. Michael Delaney. From this union, they were blessed with two bundles of joy: Mr. Michael Thomas Delaney (Heidi) of South Mills, NC and Miss Karla Vilisha Delaney of Newberry, SC, who dedicated her time to assist with her medical care.  In addition, Sharon leaves precious and fond memories to cherish to, one sister, Mrs. Lisa Perry Smith of Arlington, VA; two granddaughters Madyson Amberly Delaney of Moyock, NC and Madelynn Benton of South Mills, NC; niece, Miss Brittany Jalis Smith and nephew, Mr. Johnathan Edward Smith of Arlington, VA; Grand-dog Precious of Newberry, SC along with a host of aunts, uncle, cousins, and friends.
