Mrs. Rosa Lee Sligh was born August 6, 1920 in Maybinton, South Carolina to the late Allen Gibson, Sr. and the late Eula Bell Hodges Gibson. She entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
She was a faithful member of Seekwell Baptist Church since the age of twelve. She was an excellent cook who loved to cook for her family. Her favorite flower was red roses and she loved watching the Andy Griffith Show. She loved visits from her family and friends where her witty personality and great sense of humor kept everyone full of laughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sons, Archie Lee Dawkins, Charles Dawkins, James Earl Sligh and Allen Sligh; six brothers, Allen Gibson, Jr., Hoover Gibson, Whitney Gibson, Arlee Gibson, Heyward Gibson and Willie Gibson; four sisters, Estelle Belton, Queen Boler, Irene Young and Eula Mae Henderson.
She leaves loving memories to one son, Lewis Dawkins of Newberry, SC; two daughters, Gloria Chapman of Newberry, SC and Linda Sligh of District Heights, MD; one sister, Mildred Bailey of Fort Washington, MD; twelve grandchildren, Kenny Dawkins, Toy Dawkins, Patricia Goree (Donnie), Sandra Sligh, Edward Sligh (DeeAnn), Vivian Sligh, Davis Sligh, Gerald Sligh (Keela), Gail Sligh, Ebony Sligh-Davis (Willie), Darryl Chapman, Ericka Miles (Terrence); 26 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Seekwell Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel. A mask or face covering is required to enter the funeral home.
