Raymond Lee Sims

Mr. Raymond Lee Sims, age 68, was born in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Mrs. Julia Sims Ruff and the late Mr. Haskell Gray. He was raised by his grandmother the late Mrs. Claudia M. Sims.   He passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 27, 2023.

He was a graduate of Newberry High School class of 1973 and was a faithful employee of Whitaker Floor Coverings for 44 years.  Mr. Sims retired from  the South Carolina National Guard.  He was an Atlanta Falcons fan and loved to ride his motorcycle with his friends and cruising around in his Dodge Charger RT the love of his life.

Mr. Sims was predeceased by his son, Ramon Sims; sister, Audrey Gray and brother, Larry "Cream" Sims.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted companion, Gwendolyn Duckett; daughters, Comada Duckett-Holmes (Wilbert, Jr.) and Tawanda Sligh (Jamel) of Newberry, SC; son, Ryan Hawkins (Nakisha) of Charlotte, NC; sisters, Janell Alexander (Daniel), Linda Ruff and Pamela Gray all of Newberry, SC; brothers, Michael Ruff (Doris) of Laurens, SC; Wilson Ruff, III, George Ruff (Pamela) of Newberry, SC and Frankie Ruff of Wellford, SC; six grandchildren, Otis Hutcherson (Kimberly), Ethan Sligh, Xykiera Sims, Takiyah Sims, Peyton Holmes and Reagan Sligh; two aunts, three uncles, daughter-in-law, Rhonda Sims of Charlotte, NC; nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and friends.  Devoted caregiver/sister-in-law, Sue Clark; devoted cousin, Thomas Sims; devoted nephew, Kenya Duckett.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Newberry Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.  A mask or face covering is required to enter the funeral home.
