Olin Gallman, Jr. was born to the late Olin Gallman, Sr. and Ida Mae Miller Gallman on June 16, 1940, in Little Mountain, South Carolina. He entered eternal, peaceful rest on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his residence.
As a child, his roots were planted early at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church. Olin built his life on serving the Lord and attended Oak Grove until his death. He served in many capacities throughout his life, including appointments as Trustee at an early age, and later in life as Elder. During his tenure, Olin aided in planning and facilitating various building projects, including the Fellowship Hall and Vestibule. He served as treasurer for the church for over 30 years and as president of the Burial Aid Society for 15 years. He was a member of the Oak Grove Men’s Choir and the Men of Faith.
Olin’s ambition to achieve began in Newberry County Public Schools, and he graduated from Gallman High School in 1958. After high school, he attended Allen University and later gained employment with General Electric, where he was a faithful employee for 32 years. Due to health issues, Olin retired at an early age. However, he took time to enjoy and appreciate nature, often spending time bird watching, doing yard work, cooking, fishing, hunting, watching baseball, helping others, spending time with family, reading his bible, and attending his church.
Olin met the love of his life, the former Geneva Elizabeth Hardy, 64 years ago. Their union was blessed with two sons and one daughter.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister, Judith Ann Powe, and brother, Calvin R. Gallman.
Olin had many great qualities and he will be remembered warmly for them all. But no one can replace his warm personality, his even and pleasant temperament, his genuine smile and his casual way of making everyone feel comfortable and welcome in his presence.
Those who celebrate his life and love, and cherish precious memories are his loving and dedicated wife, Geneva E. Hardy Gallman of Irmo, SC; two sons, William D. Gallman (Pamela) of Irmo, SC, and Tony Gallman (Naomi), of Columbia, SC; one daughter, Dr. Gail D. Gallman of Little Mountain, SC; eight grandchildren, Jennifer C. Osby (Zigmund), Christa E.J. Myers, Kandace R. Gallman, Matthew J. Gallman, Christian J. Myers, Esq., Kraig J. Gallman, Kara G. Gallman and Jessica M. Beam-Gallman; two great-grandchildren, Olive R. Osby and Eleanor G. Osby; two sisters-in-law, Diane O. Hardy of Takoma Park, MD, and Lilly S. Gallman of Columbia, SC; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, other extended family, and friends, who will all miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
