Mrs. Mattie Annette Hare Flemon passed away on February 14, 2022 at Alaris Health in Irvington, NJ. Mattie was born in Prosperity, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Hare and the late Mattie Lou Dewalt Hare.
She was a member of Heard African Methodist Episcopal Church of Roselle, New Jersey. Mrs. Hare was also a long-term member of the Emergency Choir and the South Carolina Club of Heard A.M.E Church.
Mrs. Mattie Hare Flemon relocated to NJ, in 1980, over 42 years ago. During that time, she worked at Stone Container for over 20 years and then retired from the state of NJ, (Woodbridge Developmental School) where she begin to travel with her family.
Mrs. Hare Flemon was predeceased by a sister, Ethel Lee Bullard and brother, Terry Henry Hare.
Surviving is her husband Jimmy Mitchell of Linden, NJ; her son, Rodney Hare (Wendy) of Newark, NJ; sisters, Jessie Mae Wise of Prosperity, SC; Nanie J. Watson and Eldrena Hare (Clarence) of Linden, NJ; Lucinda Hare of Prosperity, SC; Alberta Hare (Mac) of Hamilton, NJ; uncles, James (Vivian) Hare of Prosperity, SC; Freddy Lee Bowers of Washington, DC; close friend; Diane, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hebron AME Church cemetery. Viewing will be on Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel. All in attendance are required to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
