Mrs. Lillie Belle Long Battle was born on May 13, 1934 to the late Edith Glenn Long and William Long, Jr. She was born in Newberry County, South Carolina and attended Newberry County Schools.
She was a faithful life member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church of Kinards, South Carolina, where she served on the Stewardess Board, Women's Missionary, Senior Choir, and Hospitality Committee. She loved gardening, fishing, quilting and growing flowers. For 17 years, she was employed as a Weaver at Greenwood Mills, with 5 years later at Whitten Center before retirement.
She was preceded to heaven by her husband, Herbert J. Battle, grandson, Shunolon Antwan Battle, three brothers and eight sisters.
Left to cherish her memories are three children, Shunolon J. Battle (Sandra), Adra E. Battle, Lucille B. Kinard; one sister, Lois Long; and one sister-in-law, Eliza M. Long, all of Newberry; six grandchildren, Olivia C. Battle (Timothy) of Newberry, Brentavia P. Sims of Newberry, Joshua A. Battle (Jazmine) of Columbia, Shunteon A. Battle of Newberry, Willie L. Kinard, III of Newberry; Xavier N. Kinard (Sylessia) of West Columbia; nine greatgrandchildren, Tyrek A. Wicker (Jaylin), Sariyah A. Battle, Ty'tianna D. Battle, Darius T. Elkins, Javon Holmes, Tajarria N. Sims, Cedric A. Lindsay, Joshlyn M. Battle, Danielle A. Kinard, and Journiee L. N. Battle. She leaves dedicated nieces, Marilyn C. Long, Margaret Fair (John), Lakenia C. Rikard (Leon); nephews, Ronald P. Long, Darrell L. Long (Tinisha), Michael R. Long, and Jamarcus Worthy, amongst a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
