Lamar Heyward Rhett

June 2, 1959 ~ September 27, 2020 (age 61) 61 Years Old


Lamar Heyward Rhett was born on June 2nd, 1959 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Lydia Dorcus Rhett and Heyward Kessler. On Sunday September 27th 2020, Lamar passed away and transition to his heavenly Father. 

In his youth, Lamar attended Richlex School and in 1976 graduated from Irmo High School. He was well known for his God given talent as an athlete, especially as a home run hitter and back catcher. He loved playing baseball with Pine Grove and Chapin Bush league teams.  After graduating high School, he played baseball for a short time for Tennessee State University as a catcher. Due to debilitating sickness he had toreturn home to South Carolina.  

Lamar grew up in the Pine Grove AME church, Columbia and later affiliated with Mt. Zion AME church, Little Mountain. He loved watching a good game of baseball, football, and basketball and hanging out with family and friends. After accepting Christ as his Savior, he enjoyed helping others especially assisting Yvonne Harrison and Patrick Russell and residents at Palmetto  Gardens in Prosperity, SC. 

In addition to his parents, Lamar was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents  Daisy G. Rhett and Howard P. Rhett and his paternal Grandmother Mary Kessler Clark  and his Brother Mark Anthony Rhett. Also, his beloved Aunt Lucy Kessler whohelp raised Lamar as her own.

Cherishing his memory is his son Andre Blocker of Florida, two brothers Joseph Rodney Rhett (Regina), Little Mountain and Reginal Romeo Kessler, Chapin; one sister Angel LamarisBoyd, Little Mountain: Aunt Bettye Corley Tocoma, WA; two Nieces Patrice Danielle Bates and Jasmine Kessler; two Nephews Jamaar Antwain Bates and Brandon Bowers; one great niece Janae Micaiah Mayers and ahost of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Pine Grove AME Church Cemetery (120 Steward Drive, Columbia, SC 29210). Public viewing will be on Saturday, October 3 from 5- 7:00 PM at Pratt Funeral Home Chapel.  All in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
