Johnnie James Wilson, Jr.

Mr. Johnnie James Wilson, Jr., age 56, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina.

He was born April 22, 1965 in Prosperity, South Carolina to Dixie Benson Gallman and the late Johnnie James Wilson, Sr.  He was a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School and an employee of the Newberry Observer for 30 years.

Surviving are his wife, Jessica Strother Wilson; mother, Dixie Benson Gallman (Robert); daughters, Manyara and Tiana Wilson; son, Alton Jackson; sisters, Karen Wilson all of Newberry, SC; Beatrice Gallman (Tony), Darlene Epps and Isha Wilson all of Prosperity, SC; brother, Robert Wilson (Charlene) of  Newberry, SC; God-daughter, NiAsia Jones of Newberry, SC; aunts, Mary A. Rikard, Rosene Williams, Ade Mae Graham and Loretta Shepherd; uncles Roosevelt Cannon, Willie Wilson and Matthew Brown, Jr. (Thomasena); mother-in-law, Lucretia Strother, father-in-law, James Shippy; sisters-in-law, Sharon Holloway (Patrick) and Takeela Kinard; brother-in-law, Reginald Strother; devoted friends, Sammy Graham and Daryl Mumford; mother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel for immediate family only.  Viewing will be on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.  All in attendance are required to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
