Johnnie James Mathis

Mr. Johnnie James Mathis, age 83, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2020 at Lexington Medical Center.

Mr. Mathis was born in Newberry, South Carolina on March 8, 1937, to the late Willie Mathis and the late Earline Jones Mathis.  He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.  Mr. Mathis retired from the S. C. Department of Transportation.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Cooper Mathis; daughters, Felicia Mathis, Johnnie Mae Gallman (Cedric), Fannie Mathis and Pamela Mathis all of Newberry, SC; Marquitta Hunter of Washington, DC; and Earline Counts of Newberry, SC; sons,, Nicholas Mathis (Kameia) of Blair, SC, James Mathis, James Counts, James Garmany, Earl Counts and Robert Garmany; sister, Carrie Camack of Blair, SC; brother, T. J. Mathis of Newberry, SC; eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery.

Due to the current health crisis, all in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
