Henry David Ouzts

June 18, 1939 ~ June 5, 2020 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Henry David Ouzts, affectionately known as “Knott”, went to be with the Lord on June 5th, 2020. He was born June 18th, 1939, to the late Willie J. and Lillie Mae (Sims) Ouzts in Saluda, South Carolina.

Henry accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Mt. Enon Baptist Church, where he was a tither and faithful member. He loved his Church. Henry was a graduate of Riverside High School, Saluda, SC, Class of 1959. After graduation, Henry moved to Norristown, PA, where he soon became employed with the City of Norristown. After working for about a year, one of Henry’s proudest moments was when he purchased his first automobile, a candy apple red and white 1955 Chevrolet “Belair” two door hardtop. Later, Henry started to work for Glows Rubber Company in Philadelphia, PA, then he moved to Philadelphia, PA, from Norristown, where he shared an apartment with his brother, Joe Ouzts, Sr.

 During the summer of 1964, Henry moved back to Saluda, SC, where he obtained employment with the South Carolina Highway Department, Department of Transportation road crew, in Newberry, SC.

Later, he started a job with Southern Brickyard Company, in Ninety-Six, SC. This was one of Henry’s most favorable jobs. He operated a “Yuke” heavy equipment earth mover, which he often told stories about. Henry loved to write music and poems. He also loved singing. He loved his family unconditionally and was a strong man. Henry was preceded in death by his siblings, Rosie M. Ouzts, Willie J. Ouzts, Jr., Earvin Ouzts and Annie Ruth (Ouzts) Mitchell; and one sister-in-law, Sara Lee (Price) Ouzts. Henry leaves to cherish and to honor his memory, a special nephew, Joe “Joey” (Denise) Ouzts, Jr., and a great-great-nephew, Greyson Ouzts, all of Irmo, SC; a special niece, Dorothy Ouzts, a brother, Joe (Rev. Vanessa) Ouzts, Sr., a sister, Amanda Cook (Johnathan) Barksdale, one uncle, Lonnie (Julia) Ouzts, and one sister-in-law, Fairy Bell Ouzts, all of Saluda, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who he loved dearly.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Mt. Enon Baptist Church in Saluda, SC(377 State Rd S-41-464).The family ask that those attending practice social distancing.
