Gladys Mae Wicker was born July 30, 1938, in Newberry County, South Carolina to the late Ophelia Boyd Jackson and the late Robert Lee Jackson, Sr. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
Gladys attended Gallman High School in South Carolina. She worked for several years as a CNA at Montgomery Hospital in Norristown, Pennsylvania. She entered hospitality and served as Manager of the Wee Tavern and the Cadillac Club in Norristown.
She trained many bar maids in town. Gladys loved to get her exercise by walking. She was a fan of baseball and enjoyed watching the games. She also enjoyed all kinds of music. Gladys was a people-person, and was well-known and well-loved in the community, but the children were her favorites.
Gladys attended Faith Tabernacle House Of Prayer For All People. She also attended Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an Usher.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband, David Wicker; brothers, James Morris Jackson and David Earl Jackson; sisters, Rose J. McConell, Josephine J. Fox, MaryAnn Russell; brother-in-law, Robert Russell; and granddaughter, Jwayna Washington.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, her children: Patricia Brewer and Etta J. Graham (Willie) of South Carolina, Thomas Lee Wicker, Lolita Gardner (Butch), and Elvie Taylor of Norristown, PA, James Arthur Washington of Reading, PA, and Raymond Washington of Harrisburg, PA; 31 grandchildren; 48 great grand-children; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Janie Brown, Vashtie Cannon (Ronnie), Jessie Reeder (John) and Barbara Lakin (Jimmy) all of South Carolina; brothers, Raymond Jackson (Martha), and Robert Lee Jackson, Jr. (Sadie) both of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Barbara Jackson of Norristown, PA; and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
