Obituary

Genell Eleazer, at the age of 92, passed away on May 19, 2022 at Prisma Health Hospital, Sumter, South Carolina.  She is preceded in death by her parents the late David Werts and the late Carrie Meyers Monts Martin, four brothers, George S. Monts,, (Maey), Johnnie B. Monts, David Monts and Joseph Wheeler.  Genell was reared by her grandparents, Paul and Lottie Mayers, whom she affectionately called Poppa and Mother.  Genell was married to the late Montez Eleazer, that marriage ended in divorce.  Genell accepted Christ as her personal savior at the age of 12.  Genell loved the Lord and at the age of 18, she received the baptism of the holy spirit.

Genell grew up in Prosperity, South Carolina, where she graduated from Drayton High School in Newberry, South Carolina.  She later migrated to Washington District of Columbia, where she further her education at The Cortez Business College.  Genell was employed with the United States Postal Service in Washington, D. C. and Columbia, South Carolina, where she received numerous accolades.  Genell retired from the Postal Service in Columbia, South Carolina in 1992.  While living in Washington District of Columbia, Genell joined New Samaritan Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend Robert Harrison.  Genell was a faithful member and was the financial secretary of the South Carolina Club.

After migrating back to South Carolina, Genell was reunited with Lover Mt. Olive A. M. E. church, under the leader of Reverend Moses, and later, under the leadership of Reverend Michael Harp.  She loved her Lower Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church where she attended faithfully and served as secretary over thirty-one years.

Genell was always willing to help anyone.  She loved praying and would pray for anyone in need of a prayer.  Genell especially loved conducting prayer service during revival.  She reading the Bible and singing in the choir. Her hobby was reading the Bible.

Genell touched almost everyone's life at Mt. Olive Church, but one of her greatest joy was loving her god-children and all little children.

Genell leaves treasured memories with her four sisters, Pearline Boyd,  Carrie Gray, Onzilee Casey (Joseph) Betty Buskey (George); one brother, Timothy Monts (Cynthia); four sisters-in-law, Mary Monts, Doris Monts, Cynthia Monts and Mattie Wheeler; three God-children, Eric Buskey, Shavon Gallmon and Yvonne Gallmon and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Genell will be remembered for her sweet spirit, and unwavering love she always showed her family.  May the love of God be with her eternally.

Three god children, Eric Buskey, Shavon Gallmon, and Yvonne Gallmon. Two special and caring brother-in-laws, George L. Buskey and Joseph Casey, and a host of loving relatives and friends.

Genell will be remembered for her sweet spirit and unwavering love she always showed her family.  May the love of God be with her eternally.  

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 12:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow in Lower Mt. Olive A. M.  E. Church cemetery.  Public viewing will be on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.  A mask is required to enter the funeral home.
