Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Coleman Jr., age 71, will be conducted 2 PM on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at James Hopewell Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Coleman passed away at his home on Friday, September 6, 2019. He was born on April 23, 1948, to the late Eugene Coleman, Sr. and the late Essie Butler Coleman.  He was an active member of James Hopewell Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Brotherhood Ministry. 

He attended Newberry County Schools and graduated from Gallman High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam era.  After receiving and Honorable Discharge he served as a police officer in Augusta, Ga. and Newberry, SC before accepting a position with the South Carolina Department for Corrections until his retirement

He was an avid sportsman -Basketball, and a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers...and was committed to supporting his children and grandchildren in all areas of their personal, academic, business and athletic life. and others who came into his life. 

Mr. Coleman is predeceased by siblings Willie Lee Jackson, Esco Jackson, Hasker Dean,  Ethel Mae Davenport and Ponzell Lindsay, and sons Anthony Robert Coleman, Sr. and Orlando Watkis, Jr.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his loving wife of eleven years, Sharon Coleman; also lovingly remembered by his children, Stevie Coleman (Patricia), Tammie Epps (Reginald), Tiffany Gibson, Trevor Gibson and Cleophus Scott.  He cherished the relationships with his grandchildren Anthony Robert Coleman, Jr., Jarryd Coleman, Jordan Coleman, Rex Epps, Briant Coleman, Chandler Watkis, Omarion Watkis and great-granddaughter,  Autumn Coleman; his loving sisters, Patsy Ann Coleman Shells and Leila Ardelia Coleman Davis.

Mr. Coleman gained a special group of friends who enriched his life for more than 30 years: Charles Geiger, Hays Sims, Fred Nalls. They referred to themselves as "The Four Horsemen".  Additionally, Eugene Wilson was a special friend!
