Elizabeth Ann (Bookman) Austin

Mrs. Elizabeth A. Austin, age 72, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

Born in Prosperity, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Bookman and the late Mary Lou Stoudermire Bookman. Mrs. Austin was a longtime member of Shiloh AME Church and a member of Women's Aide Society #23.  Mrs. Austin was an employee of Walter P. Rawls and Louis Rich until her health declined.

Mrs. Austin was predeceased by her husband, Robert Lee Austin; brothers, Gene, George, James and Malverse Bookman; sisters, Mary Edith and Laura Mae Bookman, Mary Frances Swittenburg, Naomi Wise, Rosa Lee Jones, Joann Ruff and Thelma Bookman.

Surviving are daughters, Barbara Bookman and Mary E. Suber of Newberry, SC; Carol A. Limehouse (Cliff) of Prosperity, SC; Zonia A. Cureton (Shunpreece) of Columbia, SC; sons, Randy Bookman of Rock Hill, SC; Calvin Austin (Margie) of Newberry, SC; Robert Bookman of Coatville, PA; 25 grandchildren including Nathan Suber, Jr., Na'Teria Suber, Jaheil Thompson and Tatyana Rikard who were reared in the home; 16 great grandchildren; five sisters, Willie Mae Cromer and Edith Swittenburg both of Newberry, SC; Mary, Carol and Georgia Bookman; brothers, Roy, Albert and Terry Bookman all of Prosperity, SC; aunt, Florence Stoudermire; uncle, Willie Mack Stoudermire; two sisters-in-law, Hattie M. Swittenburg (Emory) and Bobbie Jean Ruff of Newberry, SC; devoted friends, Dexter Gallman and Sherrill Floyd; a host of nieces, nephews, close family members and friends who will truly miss her.

Graveside services will be Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM at  Newberry Memorial Gardens.   Those in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
