Deacon James Odell (" Head ") Davis

Funeral services for Mr. James O'dell " Head" Davis, age 78, will be conducted on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 11 AM at Old Beaver Dam Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Davis passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019.  Born in Newberry County, he was the son of the late O'dell Davis and the late Magnolia Long Davis.  He was retired from Oakland Mills and a self-employed painter. Mr. Davis was a Deacon at Old Beaver Dam Baptist Church, as well as a member of the Gospel Choir and the Superintendent.

Mr. Davis was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Edward Davis and sister, Annie Bell Glasgow.

Surviving are his wife, Angie Whitner Davis, daughters, Janice D. Davis and Sharon Denise Davis of Newberry; son, Rodney Benard Davis of Newberry; sisters, Daisy Pringle (James) of Maryland, Ella Hunter(David) of Columbia, Frances Garrett(Reggie) of Columbia, Sandra Riley(Danny) of Newberry, Rebecca Veney of Columbia and Betty Jo Mosley(Thomas) of Columbia;  adopted son, Fred Basnight;  Grandchildren: Kenya Davis, Jameelah Davis, Shaquille Basnight(Sabrina Whitfield), Zecorian Davis and Nigeria Davis; Great- Grandchildren, Amari King, Amara King, Amir Basnight and Zhikhari Gallman; 2 sisters-in-law;  beloved friends, James Willie Suber and Thomas Dudley, and a host of other relatives and friends.
