Cleo Sims

Mr. Cleo C. Sims, age 76, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Prisma Baptist Easley.

He was born May 16, 1944 in Newberry, South Carolina to the late Calvin and Mary Lois Sims.  Mr. Sims was baptized at Fairview Baptist Church at an early age.  He was later baptized at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Peekskill, New York.  He worked at the VA Hospital in Montrose, New York for many years as Head Cook.  In his final years he was employed at Senior Catering of Newberry where he was also a cook.  He attended Newberry County Public Schools.

Mr. Sims loved playing softball in the 70's and 80's.  He played with the Central Lites and 007 teams.  He loved the New York Mets, Jets, Knicks and the Newberry Pirates.  He also loved his music and was a smooth dancer.

Mr. Sims was predeceased by his loving parents, Calvin C. Sims and Mary Lois Goree Sims; brothers, Carl Melvin Ruff, Curtis L. Goree; sister, Gracie Mae Edwards and cousin, James Lee Ruff.

Cherishing his memory are his daughter, Cherri Mechell Sims; sons, Calbert B. Sims (Hope) and Calvert A. Sims all of Peekskill, NY; Cleon Demont Reeves (Leslie) of Florida; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brothers, Willie Thomas Sims (Dorothy) of Peekskill, NY; Gary L. Goree , Russell L. Goree, Stephon Sims; sisters, Mary Ann Mayers, Deloise Ruff, Ruby Cook, Gail Turner (Clarence), Neddra Cannon (Frank) all of Newberry, SC; brother-in-law, Johnnie Edwards of Newberry, SC; significant companion, Catherine Sims of the home; aunt, Marie Williams of Columbia, SC; devoted niece, Angie Sims; cousins reared in the home, Wilbert Chaplin and Haze E. Sims; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates.

A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Newberry Memorial Gardens.  All in attendance are asked to wear a mask or face covering and to practice social distancing.
