Benjamin Grover Qualls, Jr.

Mr. Benjamin G. Qualls, Jr. , age 89, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020  at Agape Hospice House in Lexington, SC.

Born in Newberry County, SC, he was the son of the late Dr. Benjamin G. Qualls, Sr. and the late Fanny Mae Gary. 

Mr. Qualls served his country in the US Marine Corps and was involved in the Korean War.  He was a retired chemist with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.  He was a graduate of Benedict College and a member of the Alumni Association of Benedict College.

He was predeceased by his wife, Talsa Thompson; and grandson, Ibn-Najee Shabazz.

He is survived by his daughter, Dorie Qualls Shabazz of Columbia, SC; son, Benjamin Qualls, III of Yonkers, New York; grandchild, Abdullah Shabazz; sister, Marilyn Griffin of Alpharetta, Georgia; 4 sisters-in-law; 5 brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 4:00 PM at Werts Cemetery.  Public viewing will be held from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday, October 4, 2020. All in attendance are asked to wear a mask/ face covering and to practice social distancing.
