Barbara Samuel Obituary

Ms. Barbara Louise Samuel, affectionately known as "Barb", daughter of the late Johnny Lee Pitts and the late Gussie Mae Bookman, was born May 12, 1958, in Newberry County, South Carolina. She departed this life on September 27, 2023, at Prisma Health Heart Hospital.

She was a faithful student of Jehovah Witnesses. She graduated from McKeesport Senior High School, McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She was employed by Whitten Center in Clinton, South Carolina for several years. She retired from Louis Rich, Newberry, South Carolina.

Barb had a green thumb and loved growing flowers. Her yard was filled with beautiful flowers. She was a great baker and was famous for blessing others with her famous Red Velvet and Key Lime cakes. She was an amazing cook and was known for her succulent meals. She loved all children and was the family's on-call baby sitter.

Those who celebrate her beautiful life and cherish precious and loving memories include her children, daughter, Junohn Dewitt (Tracy) of Lexington, SC, sons Chad Samuel of Charlotte, NC and Travis Choice of Newberry, SC; siblings James B. Swittenburg of Charlotte, NC, Johnny Greely of Chapin, SC, Patricia Hawkins, Tracy (Lisa) Bookman, Samuel (Bert) Bookman and Shawn Bookman, all of Newberry, SC; two grandchildren, Jamari and Jayda Dewitt of Lexington, SC; aunts, Kathy Brooks of Columbia, SC, Henrietta Samuel, Phylliss Ann Ruff, both of Newberry, SC, Betty Lewis of Baltimore, MD, Loraine Williams (Larry), of Oxon Hill, MD, Mary Frances Boyd, Annie Davenport both of Prosperity, SC, uncles, Robert Hawkins (Faye) of Saluda, SC, Rodney Wise of Newberry, SC; and a host of cousins and friends that she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.  Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
