Barbara Rae Abney

Ms. Barbara Rae Abney was born March 27, 1942 in Whitmire, South Carolina to the late Robert Lee Poag and the late Annie Lee Young.  She departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Agape House of Lexington.

Mrs. Abney attended school in Silverstreet, South Carolina.  She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Jesse Frank Hawkins Nursing Home where she was awarded Assistant of the Year.  She lived in Grant Homes for many years and was awarded Mother of the Year.

Mrs. Abney had a heart of gold and believed in caring for her family and friends.

Mrs. Abney was preceded by a lifelong companion, John Wesley Longshore.

Those who cherish her life and were dear to her are her two daughters, Dolores Jacobs and Angela Longshore; three sons, Dwane Abney and Warren Abney (Patricia) all of Newberry, SC; and Willie Abney (Sharon) of Williamsburg, VA; sister, Diana Davis-Evans of Newberry, SC; brother, James Robert Davis of Waterbury, CT; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, honorary grandson, Kelvin Abney, honorary granddaughter, Ameillian Fant; honorary great-grandsons, Markell Jacobs and Cayce Graham; two great-great grandchildren, devoted cousins, Ernestine Prelue, Alfreda Price and Queen E. Posey; a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly; we give honor to her caregiver, Sylvia Wicker for the great care she provided.  We will truly miss her.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.  Public viewing will be on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.  A mask is required to enter the funeral home.
