ALMA CHRISTINA (GLENN) SUTTON, entered into eternal rest at home in Monroe Township, New Jersey on July 15, 2022.
Alma, who was affectionately known as " Mikki" was born in Newberry, South Carolina on September 9, 1953, to the late Mitchell and Mary Alma Glenn. Alma was baptized at the age of 10 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she and her family attended services regularly. She received her education from Drayton Elementary School and Gallman High School in Newberry.
At the age of 16, Alma relocated to New Jersey with her sisters, Shirley and Willie Joe, and furthered her education at Essex County Community College, with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
Alma met and fell in love with the late Kirby Ray Sutton, Sr. and they were married in 1981. Alma spent many years working in insurance at companies such as North Carolina Mutual, CHUBB, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. She retired as a corporate account administrator from Verizon Wireless in December of 2017.
Alma will be remembered as a resourceful and resolute woman with a strong decorative knack. She will also be remembered as a loving mother of two, grandmother of six and great grandmother of two. Those close to Alma were always reminded of how deeply she cherished her family.
Alma was predeceased by: her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Glenn; her husband, Kirby Sutton Sr.; two sisters, Shirley Jean Rhodes (Johnnie James, deceased) and Willie Joe Parkes (Dathan, deceased); two brothers, MacArthur Gilliam and Robert Lee Glenn (Johnnie Mae).
She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Darryl Glenn (Bonnie) and Kirby Sutton II.: (Patricia); two sisters, Patsy Ann Workman (Gene, deceased) and Rosa Mae Miller (Robert); six beloved grandchildren, Steven, Terrell, Taji, Trevon, Bryce, and Brielle; two great-grandchildren, Remmalyn and Leilani-Bonnie, a long-time friend and supporter, Charles Fennell; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Whigham Funeral Home, 580 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Newark, New Jersey.
