Vera (Sligh) Weldon

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Sligh Weldon will be conducted on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Shiloh AME Church.  431 Shiloh Street  Prosperity, SC . Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Weldon passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Augusta Medical Center.

Vera Ann was born on November 26, 1946  in Newberry, SC.  She was the beloved daughter of Robert L. Sligh Sr. and GeorgeAnn Sligh.  While growing up in Newberry County, Vera Ann was an active member of Shiloh AME Church.

Vera Ann was a graduate of Allen University.  She taught at Voorhees College and in LaGrange, GA.  Vera Ann ventured to Newark, NJ where she taught Music and studied opera in New York City.  She married, separated, and returned to SC to selflessly care for her aging parents. Vera Ann led the choir at Shiloh and traveled throughout the area playing for various churches and events.

Vera Ann was known for her quiet wit.  Her endless supply of warmth and selflessness overshadowed many a dreary day for her friends and family.

Vera Ann was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas Sligh Sr., Richard Sligh, and Douglas Ray Sligh.

She leaves to cherish in her loving memory, her sister and brother, Shirley Imes, of Newark, NJ, Robert L. Sligh Jr. (Laura) of Durham, NC; her son, Levon Brown of Newberry, SC; grandchildren- Nyeobie Brown, Karma Brown, Jelise Brown, Jaymond Parham, Donovan Brown; nieces and nephew- Laura Louise Sligh, Lisa Sligh, Cassandra Conway (Wayne), Danielle Imes, Shirlette Imes, Rev. Thomas Sligh Jr. (Zohnette), Kabrene Pittman (Steven); grand-nieces & nephew- Jazlyn Sligh, Kaitlyn Freeman, Zhane Sligh, Thomas E. Sligh III and a host of close family and friends.
