Vera Ellen (Sligh) Sligh

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Ellen Sligh, age 69, will be conducted on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Werts  Cemetery.

Mrs. Sligh passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at her home.  Born in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late George Sligh and the late Louvenia Sims Sligh.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Gospel Choir.  Mrs. Sligh retired from Newberry College after twenty years of service.

Mrs. Sligh was predeceased by her husband, James Earl Sligh and brother, Charlie Sligh.

Surviving are her children, Patricia (Donnie) Goree, Sandra Sligh, Vivian Sligh, Edward (Deanne) Sligh, David Sligh and Gerald (Keela) Sligh all of Newberry, SC; sisters, Barbara Sligh of Newberry, SC; Mary Alice Parker of Baltimore, MD; Georgia Mae Sligh of Bronx, NY; brothers, George Sligh, James Eddie (Tracie) Sligh and Larry Sligh all of Newberry, SC; mother-in-law, Rosa Lee Sligh of Newberry, SC; seventeen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren including Arien Dorley reared in the home; aunt, Bonnie Sligh; sisters-in-law, Gloria Chapman of Newberry, SC; Linda Sligh of District Heights, MD; brother-in-law, Louis Dawkins of Newberry, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
