Powhtian Nelson

Funeral services for Mr. Powhtian Nelson, age 70, known by family and friends as "De-De", will be conducted on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 5:00 PM at Pratt Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Nelson passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.  Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Thomas Powhatan Nelson and the late Hilda Francis Purnell- Nelson. 

He attended Baltimore City Public Schools.  Mr. Nelson retired as a security guard from John Hopkins Hospital.  Later he moved to Newberry, SC to be closer to his brother Deloyde Nelson and sister-in-law Dorries Nelson.  Mr. Nelson was a gentle, funny and kind man.

Surviving are six sisters, Hilda Rita (Earl) Nelson, Mona Lisa (James) Bazemore, Sultana Cisario, Denise (Kenneth) Koritzer, Salomi (Louis) Bazemore and Charlotte Jane (Alvan) Williams all of Baltimore, MD; four brothers, Deloyde Tyrone (Dorries) Nelson of Prosperity, SC; Gary Van (Windy) Nelson, King Thomas (Janie) Nelson and Antonio Nelson all of  Baltimore, MD; a host of nieces, nephews who will greatly miss him.

The family will receive friends at the home of Deloyde and Dorries Nelson, 221 Hidden Valley Road, Prosperity, SC.
