Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Washington Mangum, age 101, affectionately known as "Clyde", will be conducted on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Mangum passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at White Oak Manor - Newberry. Born in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late Wade and Trannie Ray Washington. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and Women's Home Aide Society Lodge #52. She was employed with Damon International for many years until her retirement. Prior to working at Damon International she worked in the industrial industry in Rhode Island and New York.
Mrs. Mangum was predeceased by her husband Andrew Mangum, her only child, Carrie Louise Mangum Chaplin and ten siblings. She was a devoted wife, and her biggest joy was being a loving and caring grandmother for children, whom she cherished.
Surviving are her four grandchildren, Rodney Osborn Chaplin (Treena) of Newberry, SC; Jamesina Chaplin-Ruff (Chris) of Newberry, SC, reared in the home; Terry Jamell Chaplin, Sr. (Tiffany) of Prosperity, SC; and Trina Louise Chaplin Wright (Kevin) of Irmo, SC; nine great-grandchildren, Coco, Rashad, Andrew, Shermeese, Terry, Jr., Ocyrus, Destiny, Madison and Madarrius; four great-great grandchildren, one brother, Zachary Washington of Virginia; sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Washington of Newberry, SC; Gloria Washington of New York; devoted son-in-law, James Chaplin, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive at the home of her granddaughter, Jamesina C. Ruff (Chris), 320 Brown Chapel Drive, Newberry, SC.
