Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence Jeter of 139 Hill Street, Carlisle, SC, will be conducted on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM at St. Luke AME Zion Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Like a mighty star, our father’s life has brightened the path of our lives. The glow of his love has cast an eternal brightness over the road to our destination. His place shall be vacant each time we meet, with out stretched hands and loving welcome, he lives in the minds of everyone who knew him.

 Mr. Lawrence Jeter, Jr., was born July 25, 1934, to the late Lawrence Jeter, Sr and the late Bell Jeter. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Heartland Manor in Union, SC, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Union County, Lawrence was educated in the Union County Public Schools. Lawrence was a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Zion Church. He was a dedicated worker with several construction companies across the country. Lawrence was a member of the Air Force in the late 50’s, and he was the first African American to play in the Air Force Baseball League. In 1958, Lawrence married the love of his life, the late Dora E. Jeter. “PaPa” as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, also known as by his friends and family, “Jeet”, Milk, Jr.” and “Uncle June”. Lawrence enjoyed life by attending baseball games, fishing and he was a lover of his community.

Those welcoming him into his Heavenly home are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Jeter, Sr.; his brothers and sisters, Roy Jeter, William Jeter, James Jeter, Eliza Jeter Dillard, Emily Jeter Whitener, Luaree Jeter Thompson and Elizabeth Huckabee; and daughterin-law, Lamatrell Jeter. Lawrence of the LAST of his generation.

Lawrence leaves to cherish his memories six children, Lorenzo Jeter, Ray Jeter, Cheryl Jeter-Stewart (Charles), Darlene Glenn, Archie Porter and Chazmon Davis. He has four grandchildren, three beautiful granddaughters, Christy Jeter of Whitmire, SC, Madison and Kennedi Jeter both of Newberry, SC, and one handsome grandson, Keegeon Duncan of Lancaster, SC; one sister-in-law, Barbara Dixon (Roosevelt) and one brother-in-law, Charles Sims both of Newberry, SC; and a host of special nieces and nephews that will miss him dearly.
