Funeral services for Mr. George Bookman, age 62,  will be conducted on  Thursday September 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm at  Pratt Funeral. Burial will be 12 noon Friday  September 28, 2018 at Fort Jackson National cemetery.

Mr. Bookman entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.

Born in Newberry County, he was the son of the late William Furman Bookman and the late Sarah Ellen Counts Bookman.  He was a member of Mt. Hebron AME Church.  Mr. Bookman retired from Bookman Trucking Company, Inc. and the South Carolina National Guard.  He was a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School.

Mr. Bookman was predeceased by four brothers, James Preston Bookman, Steve Bookman, Vernon "Bo" Bookman and Furman McArthur Bookman; three sisters, Dorothy Mae Cannon, Loanna Kahrim and Jannie Mae Livingston; two brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Mayers and Dennis Preston Curry.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Lorraine Bookman; sons, Anthony Odell Cannon of Prosperity, SC; Demond (Pamela) Curry and Garvis Williams both of Newberry, SC; daughters, Tiwanda Mayers of Prosperity, SC. Tosha Mayers of Irmo, SC and Brittany Williams all of Newberry, SC; sisters Frances Nelson, Barbara Bowers, Ruby Robinson all of Newberry, SC; Marie "Cookie" White, Jeannette (Larry) Furtick and Catharine Samuel all of Columbia, SC; brothers, John (Leslie) Sweetenburg of Pomaria, SC; Richard (Bessie) Bookman and Terry (Carrietta) Bowers all of Newberry, SC; Jerry (Kimberly) Bowers, David Bookman, and William Bookman all of Columbia, SC; one aunt, Willie Houseal of Little Mountain, SC; eighteen grandchildren, six brothers-in-law, ten sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
