Funeral  services for Mrs. Fennie Verta Mae Dewalt Hair will be conducted on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Moriah AME Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hair passed away on April 16, 2017 at her home.  Born in Lexington County on May 31, 1923, she was the daughter of the late David Lee Dewalt, Sr. and the late Triphine Long Dewalt. 

She was a member of Mt. Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church where she was the Mother of the Church and she served in many positions in the church:  as a member of the Mt. Moriah Chorus , a member of  Stewardess Board No. 1 (including making the communion clothes), a Steward, a Trustee, 31 years as the Sunday School Treasurer, and a member of the Women Missionary Society.  In addition she was a member of Woman Aid Society No. 23.  For countless years, she nurtured her immediate and extended family members, home, and flowers while maintaining her focus on serving God.

She was predeceased by husband, Ambrose Hair; and a daughter, Mae Emma Hair; two brothers, David Lee Dewalt, Jr. and Leo Dewalt; six sisters, Avie Long, Stella Dewalt, Emma L. Hiller, Jestine Dewalt, Bernice Holman and Rozine Dewalt; and her step-mother Lessie B. Toland Dewalt.

Surviving  are one son, Mr. Henry Lee Hair of Philadelphia ,PA;  three daughters, Ms. Queen Esther Bates of Prosperity, SC,  Ms. Daisy Mae Langford of Newberry, SC, and Ms. Christine Curry of Columbia SC; six grandchildren, Mrs. Ramona  Alexander, Mrs. Angela (Samuel) Heller, Mrs. Karen (Johnnie) Frank, Ms. Paula Hare,  Mr. Phillip C Curry, Jr. , and Ms. Narcissa Langford;  eight great grandchildren;  five great great grandchildren;  one godson Macky Wheeler;  two brothers,   Mr. Willie Matthew Dewalt and Mr.  Aaron (Janice) Dewalt of Prosperity, SC;   four  sisters, Ms. Martha Jean Ruff of Highpoint, NC, Ms. Polly Hampton of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Evelyn D (Eugene) Brooks and Ms. Avie D Davenport of Columbia, SC;  one sister (niece) raised in the home, Ms. Vera Mae Gallman;  two brother-in-laws,  Mr. James (Vivian) Hair, Sr. of Prosperity ,SC and  Mr. Freddie Lee Bowers of Washington, DC; one sister-in-law Ms. Mary Wills of Washington, DC,  and a host of nieces and nephews many of whom she aided in rearing, cousins, relatives and friends.
