Earnest Boyd

August 31, 1935 ~ September 30, 2018 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Funeral services for Mr. Earnest ”Skip” Boyd, age 83, will be conducted on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Hannah AME Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Boyd departed this earthly life and entered into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at his home.  Born in Newberry County, he was the son of the late Robert Thomas Boyd,  Sr.  and Melinda Boyd and the late Mr. Jesse Burton, Sr.

Mr. Boyd was a member of Hannah AME Church where he helped with many duties such as Senior Choir, Male Chorus, Class Leader #2, former Church Custodian, and a Honorary Trustee Member. He was also a member of Solid Rock Lodge #243 in Chapin, SC.

Mr. Boyd retired from Newberry County School Bus Maintenance Department after 30 years of service. In addition, he loved carpentry work, crafting, gardening, entertaining, and cracking jokes.

Mr. Boyd was predeceased by his wife, Bessie Mae Toland Boyd; daughters, Earnestine DeWalt, Delphine Greenwood, and Elease Caldwell; sisters, Paulette Baker, Mattie Glasgow, Josephine Wise, and Minnie Toland; brothers, James Williams, Larry Boyd, Eugene Burton, Joseph Burton, and Johnny Ray Burton.

Those left to cherish his memories include his daughters, Betty Ann (Randy) Stoudermire of Prosperity, SC, Angelia (Eddie) Heller of Pomaria, SC; sons, Kenneth (Lorraine) Boyd and Randy (Barbara) Boyd of Prosperity, SC, and Mark (Lisa) Boyd of Irmo, SC; sisters, Vivian (James) Hair of Prosperity, SC, Ruthie (Billie) Coxs, Hazel (Sherman) Cannon, Hattie (Eddie) Hinnant, all of Columbia, SC, and Velcenia (Andrew) Williams of Chapin, SC; brothers, Harold (Lucinda) Boyd and Robert (Rosa) Boyd, Jr., both of Prosperity, SC, Jessie (Louise) Burton and Paul (Mary) Burton, both of Columbia, SC, David (Pamela) Burton of Camden, SC.; nineteen grandchildren including devoted grandsons, Calvin Hair and Demarcus Heller; devoted granddaughters Kimberly Boyd and Andrea Bookman; granddaughter Keundra H. Gartman, reared in the home; eleven great-grandchildren including a devoted great-granddaughter, Janezshia Boyd, also reared in the home; sons-in-law, Claude DeWalt and George Greenwood, both of Newberry, SC; sisters-in-law, Annie Lee Holley of Newberry, SC, Clara Mae Caldwell of Lexington, SC, Lillie Williams of Savannah, Georgia, Shirley Burton of Irmo, SC, Rosetta Burton and Christine Burton of Columbia, SC., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Special thanks to Agape Hospice Care, Bertha Kessler, and  devoted nieces, Shenita Boyd, Lisa Wise, LaVelma Toland, and Joan Boyd for caring for Mr. Boyd in his final days.
