Adell (Connor) Higgins

Funeral services for Mrs. Adell Connor Higgins, age 93, will be conducted on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Mt. Zion AME Church in Jalapa, SC.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  

Mrs. Higgins passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at her residence.  Born in Newberry County, she was the daughter of the late Pink Connor and Ann Connor.  Mrs. Higgins was a member of Mt Zion AME Church in Jalapa where she was the Mother of the Church and a member of the Steward Board.  She was also a member of Eastern Star Chapter #460 and Women's Home Aid Society #74.

Mrs. Higgins was predeceased by her husband, James Higgins, Jr.; daughter, Minnie H. Joiner; son, John F. Higgins; granddaughters, Tina D. Higgins, Christine Higgins and Vanessa Higgins; sisters, Lillie Mae Connor, Willie Mae Gary and Susie Mae Connor; brothers, Columbus and Leroy Connor.

Mrs. Higgins was the last survivor of her siblings.

Surviving are daughters, Daisy (Charles) Harris of Charlotte, NC; Annie M. Higgins of Kernesville, NC; Mattie H. Jones of Kinards, SC; Willie L. Suber and Ella B. (Amos) Smith of Clinton, SC; Sallie P. Higgins of Kinards, SC;Lillie M. Boozer of Lexington, SC; Adell H. Duckett of Columbia, SC; sons, Thomas (Thomasina) Higgins of Joanna, SC; James B. Higgins of Palm Springs, CA; grandsons reared in the home, Michael D. Higgins of Irmo, SC, Tyson Jones of Newberry, SC and James Smith of Gray Court, SC; granddaughters reared in the home, Tonya Y. Sweat of Charlotte, NC and Valencia Jones Wise of Chapin, SC; great-great grandchildren reared in the home, Aliyamma Sweat of Clinton, SC; Malcolm Jones of Kinards, SC and Takeema Jones Young of Newberry, SC; 26 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Kinard; brother-in-law, Thomas "Dan" Higgins; sons-in-law, John B. Jones, Calvin Suber and devoted son-in-law, Willie B. Boozer; a host of other relatives and friends.
