Funeral services for Mr. Phillip Curry, age76, will be conducted on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Pratt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM with military honors at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.
Mr. Curry passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at White Oak Manor-Newberry. He was the son of the late Fleming Curry and the late Louise Reeves Curry.
Mr. Curry served as a SGT in the US Armed Forces and Vietnam War, where he received a Honorable Discharge and many medals including the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Air Medal, Air Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Medal (2d Award), Air Medal (3d Oak Leaf Cluster), Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge (1st Award) and Vietnam Campaign Medal, while in combat in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Bates; daughter, Paula Rhett; brothers, Daniel Curry, Saul Curry, Tim Curry and J.D. Timothy Curry; sisters, Betty Byrd and Julia Boyd; and great-grandson, Mykah Santanna Smith.
Those who will cherish precious and loving memories include a wife, Christine Hare Curry of Columbia, SC; devoted daughter and caretaker, Phyllis Francina Bates Reeves; daughter, Rachel Eargle; sons, Virgil A. Bates, Phillip Curry, Jr.; sisters, Eva Nellums, Katherine Curry and Barbara Ann (Paul) Lopez; brothers, Sampson (Barbara Jean) Curry and Charlie (Patsy) Curry; a devoted long time companion, Florence Jackie Conklin of New York; a devoted friend, Eddie Wisher of New York; and a devoted nephew, Julius Clark of New York; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
