Murrel Boyd, Jr.

Funeral services for Mr. Murrel Boyd, Jr. will be conducted on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Metropolitan Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Boyd passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his home.  Born in Newberry County, he was the son of the late Murrel Boyd, Sr. and the late Mattie Wilson Boyd Brown.  He was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.  Mr. Boyd was educated in Newberry County Public Schools. He loved all sports especially baseball, which he coached several teams in Newberry.

He was a quiet and compassionate person who loved his family dearly.  He will be remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Mr. Boyd was predeceased by a grandson; brothers, Odell Boyd, Rev. Brady Boyd, Jasper L. Boyd, L. C. Boyd, Frankie Brown and Johnnie Brown; sister, Daisy Boyd.

Surviving are his wife, Annie B. Boyd of the home; children, Tommy Lindsay (Robin), Janice Mathis (Bobby), McArthur Lindsay, Vera Boyd (Avis) all of Newberry, SC; Marie Boyd of Columbia, SC; Lewis J. Boyd (Jovonda) of Paducah, Kentucky; brothers, Thomas L. Boyd (Narvis) of Newberry, SC; James O. Boyd of Chicago, IL; sisters, Verdia Wise (Ellis) and Rosa Baxter of Newberry, SC; 27 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mamie Boyd, Thelma Boyd, Rev. Dorothy Davenport and Rev. Barbara Arrington; brothers-in-law, Bobby Dean and Wilson Brown, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including a devoted friend, Earl Baxter.
