Kenneth Mathis

Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth "GUS" Mathis, age 52, will be conducted on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Mathis passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Palmetto Health Richland.  Born in Newberry County, he was the son of Johnnie James Mathis and the late Mary E. Harmon Mathis.  He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a Trustee and a member of the Male Choir.  Mr. Mathis was an employee of Valmont Industries.

Mr. Mathis was a Mentor for teenagers, played basketball with them and was the "Peace Maker" of the family.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Rhodes Mathis; daughters, Zwaila M. Jones of Newberry, SC; Wakeesa McFall and Kendra McFall of Clinton, SC; Kandice McFall of Newberry, SC; companion, Laytoyta Jackson; sisters, Pamela Mathis, Fannie Mathis, Marqurta Hunter, Earline Counts, Johnnie Mae (Cedric) Gallman; Felica (La'Charles) Simpsons all of Newberry, SC; brothers, James Mathis of Newberry, SC; James Garmany and Robert Garmany of Pomaria, SC; James Counts; Earl Counts;  Andrea (April A.) Mathis; Tony(April D.) Mathis; Bryant (Jennifer) Mathis; Nicholas (Kameia) Mathis all of Newberry, SC; Torris Rhodes of Newberry, SC; seven grandchildren, eight aunts, six uncles, one son-in-law, 4 sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
