Joseph Rice, Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Rice, Sr., age 85, will be conducted on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Zion Chapel Baptist Church #2 of Reeder Point.  Burial with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.

Mr. passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 at WBJ Dorn Veterans Hospital.

Born in Newberry, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Mack Rice and the late Emma Blair Rice.  Mr. Rice was a retired United States Army veteran.

Brother Joseph accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Chapel Baptist Church #2 for more than 40 years.  He could always be relied upon to provide positive insight and vision into difficult situations. He served as a Trustee, Deacon, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, Financial and Membership Book Keeper. He was also a member of the Jubilee Choir, participated in the Summer Youth Lunch Program and Annual Christmas program. 

Mr. Rice was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Mary Louise Rice.

Surviving are one daughter, Persephone Ann Rice of Columbia, SC; four sons, Richard Edward Rice of Troy, IL; Joseph Rice, Jr. of Columbia, SC; Donald Terrance Rice of China Grove, NC; Michael Rice of Columbia, SC; other relatives and friends.
