John Phillip (J.P.) Morris, Jr

Funeral services for Mr. John Phillip "J. P." Morris, Jr., will be conducted on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.  A visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-6 at Pratt Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Morris passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2014 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.  Born in Prosperity, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Birdell Goley and the late John P. Morris, Sr.  Mr. Morris was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and treasurer for many years.  He graduated Valedictorian from Drayton High School.  He served in the United States Navy during World War II.  After completing his military obligations, he studied Mortuary Science in California at the San Francisco Institute of Mortuary Science and in Virginia at Hampton Institute.

Mr. Morris was predeceased by a son, John P. Morris, III.

Surviving are his wife, Naomi McMorris Morris; daughter, Birdell Morris-Dennis (James) of Rockville, MD; son, Herbert A. Morris of Newberry, SC; sister, Florence Stoudemire of Prosperity, SC; two grandchildren, James Kennedy (Nadine) and Frankie Morris; six great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Frances Tribble Morris of Hopkins, SC; Adopted daughter, Lauriel Oliver-Gustafson (Michael) of Newberry, SC; sisters-in-law, Essie Perkins and Margaret Henderson; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
