Memorial services for Mr. Eugene Samuel, age 73, will be conducted on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Wightman United Methodist Church.

Mr. Samuel passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016.  Born in Prosperity, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Lawson Samuel, Sr. and the late Annie Lee Rikard Samuel.  He was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church. 

Mr. Samuel entered the United States Army in November 1963.  He retired with the rank of GS-14.  He later became employed as a Civil Service employee with U. S. Army Communications-Electronic command as a CECOM Senior Command representative in Europe.  Mr. Samuel completed the Executive Assessment Program with the Western Management Development Center with the United States Office of Personnel Management.

Mr. Samuel was an active member of his community.  He enjoyed working outside and his favorite place was his patio.  He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather to his family and also filled the role as a father, grandfather and uncle to many.  His home was always open to family and friends.  He was an excellent communicator and listener.

Mr. Samuel was predeceased by sisters, Gussie Mae Bookman and Bonnie Wilson.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine Gray Samuel of the home; son, Bruce Joiner of Newberry, SC; daughters, Sonja (James) Bridges and Denise (Darrel) Hennessee all of Raleigh, North Carolina; Tanjala Samuel of Kuwait; step-daughter, Kenyottia (Michael) Moorer of Orangeburg, SC; sisters, Katie (Leroy) Robinson of Batesburg, SC; Kathy Brooks of Columbia, SC; Henrietta Samuel and Phyllis Ruff of Newberry, SC; brothers, Ernest (Alberta) Rikard of Columbia, SC; Lawson Samuel, Jr. of Newberry, SC; Kenneth (Jannie) Samuel of Prosperity, SC; James Phillip (Barbara) Samuel of Augusta, GA; nephew, Rodney Wise reared in the home; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, mother-in-law, Catherine C. Gray of Prosperity, SC; two brothers-in-law, Johnnie (Bruenelle) Gray of Newberry, SC; Kenneth (Juanita) Gray of Prosperity, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
